Commissioned Organ Work
In early 2001 I asked Andrew Carter if he would like to write an organ work to celebrate the centenary of St Wilfrid's, Harrogate in October 2002. He was very happy to accept, and to take up the idea of a liturgical suite to be played during the celebration of Holy Communion. The St Wilfrid's Suite consists of five pieces:
- Procession (based on the hymn: Lift High the Cross - 'Crucifer')
- Gospel Fanfare
- Offertory
- Communion (based on the plainsong hymn: Veni Creator - Come Holy Ghost, our souls inspire)
- Finale
Timothy Gray gave the first performance of the Suite during the centenary Mass on Sunday 6 October 2002, when the celebrant and preacher was His Grace the Archbishop of York, and in the presence of the composer.
The work is due to be published by Oxford University Press.
Organ Recording
There is one recording of the Harrison and Harrison organ available at present, and this may be had either in CD or Cassette format (prices respectively £8 and £5). All the proceeds of this recording go towards the commission of the above organ composition by Andrew Carter.
