With more than a million members, the Mothers' Union is the largest Christian women's organisation in the world with a distinctive tradition of personal links and relationships worldwide. United by a common commitment to Christian family life, members are active in their own communities in all sorts of ways, for example, work in prisons, hospitals, remand centres, child contact centres, playgroups, women's refuges, or by simply enjoying the fellowship of regular meetings.

How do I join?

The Mothers' Union's membership is open to anyone who has been baptised in the name of the Trinity and who supports the above aims and objectives. You don't have to be a mum - you don't even have to be married!

St Wilfrid's Mothers' Union meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7.30pm in the Parish Room. As can be seen we have a full and varied programme of events scheduled for 2008/9. If you are interested and would like further information please contact Linda Harrison (Parish Administrator) on 01423 504629.

The November meeting of the Mothers’ Union was a most entertaining and highly informative talk about bell-ringing by Andrew Aspland. Andrew's enthusiasm for the subject was infectious and we all had a most enjoyable evening which concluded with a "hands-on" lesson in hand-bell ringing. The "St Wilfrid's MU Hand -Bell Ringers" need some more practice before taking concert bookings but all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

December saw our annual Christmas dinner held, this year, at the Harrogate Brasserie. We all enjoyed a splendid meal, efficiently served, in a pleasantly festive atmosphere.

We began the New Year, with an informative talk by Richard Mantle on the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham. Richard, who is a Guardian of the Shrine, gave us an interesting insight into the history of the Shrine and its place in today's society.

Our next meeting is on 9th February when we have invited the Revd Nigel Sinclair, Vicar of St Robert's, Pannal, to tell us something of his research into how children picture Christ, in a talk entitled "Jesus through the eyes of children". We hope that as many members as possible will be able to attend what promises to be a fascinating talk.

A full calendar of events for 2008/2009 is available at the back of church. If you would like to join the Mothers' Union at St Wilfrid's, please just come along to a meeting. The MU is open to all baptised Christians who believe in the importance of family life - you don't have to be a mother.
