St Wilfrid's Walking Group

St Wilfrids Walking Group

The walking group was started just over two years ago and is organised on very informal lines. If you would like to participate all you have to do is to turn up in the church car park at 10 am on the last Saturday of each month. After we have assembled we share the cars and drive to the starting point within an hour's drive but usually much nearer than that. A typical walk will be 5 to 6 miles and the only costs involved will be a contribution to the driver if you need a lift around £1 or £2. If you feel able to do so you can volunteer to lead one of the walks but this is not necessary. On most walks there are about 10 of us; this does vary.

During spring 2010 we had a 2 day break on the east coast at the Raven Hall hotel just north of Scarborough during which 3 walks were organised into a longer one to Robin Hood's Bay and back and 2 shorter ones. Around two dozen of us participated including partners who just wanted to enjoy the facilities of the splendid hotel on the cliff top. We have another similar trip with similar numbers planned for 2011 in the North Yorkshire Moors at Wydale Hall, the York Diocesan Centre and hope to make the spring break a regular feature.

Walking is often recommended as an excellent aid to health and fitness so why not consider joining us on one of our Saturday walks. Notice of the upcoming venues is given in the Sunday Newsletter.
