The Parish of Harrogate St Wilfrid

This is a large parish (pop.12,097, ER 296) covering several large, varied residential areas of the town. Harrogate is a spa town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, renowned for its International Centre and conference trade, home to the Great Yorkshire Show, RHS Harlow Carr Gardens, the Army Foundation College and many excellent schools. The parish church is Grade 1 listed, designed by Temple Moore. Our tradition is Anglo-catholic with the style of the Vigil mass (which began life as a 'plant' on one of the estates) being modern catholic and family focused. We have a thriving musical tradition and there are links with Walsingham through regular pilgrimage. The PCC has passed resolutions A and B. There is a Team Vicar, whose ministry is focused on one of the residential estates, an NSM curate, a Reader and an administrator.

We seek a Team Rector who will oversee the worship and ministry of the whole parish. He will assist us to develop our focus for mission to the parish, helping to discern the gifts of all. He will ensure that the faith of new Christians is nurtured and the faith of those already committed is deepened. Of a traditional Anglo-catholic persuasion, he will be an inspirational leader, able to challenge and guide us, with good communication skills and some experience of leading a team. We wish to appoint a man deeply committed to the faith of the saints, who pursues his own faith through a personal commitment to prayer, worship and pilgrimage and who is confident to speak of his faith in today’s context.
